Posting your art in social media is an excellent way to market yourself. However, there are general pitfalls you should be aware of before you could commit.

The algorithms in most platforms are inconsistent and are constantly updated, which heavily affects how many users can engage in your posts. The priority of which content is shown is often unpredictable and the adaptability requires constant adjustments and updates to strategies that can be exhausting to a lot of people. Being flexible and resilient is important.

Many people have resorted to spending money in order to get better results. There is also a chance that your network won’t be broad enough to give you a number of potential customers. The resources in order to promote your art could be intensive and you have to put a good amount of investment into it through not only products that are high in quality but an active and consistent presence, which is unfair to smaller and much busier artists. This means that you also need to put a lot of time and effort into what you post.

The massive competition could lead to oversaturation in the platform and the quantity of types of art may make yours hard to stand out. Social media is constantly bombarded with new information and it’s easy to overwhelm users. Be sure to up your skills in storytelling, art skills and other elements you can think of that will make your work memorable to the masses.

However currently, there is a new threat on the horizon for artists in social media, which is the rise of AI art which not only oversaturates the market and steals work from existing artists but can lead to lost opportunities for artists looking for a job. While it’s debated that it could be a tool to help us, it’s difficult to ignore the harm it does not only to artists but the environment as well as resources and labor from the places that support the AI processes.

That’s why it’s essential to calm down and be your truest self, concentrating on being something that AI can’t imitate— a unique creative vision can help you go a long way. This means developing your art style through building skills that can enhance your uniqueness. What do you want to make? Through your personal touch, your humanity will shine through and you will be able to attain an audience if you work hard enough. Experiment with styles and even multiple mediums, create layers upon layers to your art through other elements such as storytelling and other skills you may have, Also, don’t forget to present evidence that your art isn’t AI in order to build trust from your audience— this means recording and taking photos of your creative process.

Above all else, be patient and don’t give up. There are a lot of issues within the art communities but you have to power through. Remember that as an artist, your voice matters and the right people will come along and love and support your works.
